The client

KINTO is Toyota's car share service that gives customers access to Toyota vehicles when and where they need them. With KINTO, you have the freedom to choose the perfect Toyota vehicle for you. Whether you need it for just an hour, a week, a month, or even up to a year, you can easily book it all through KINTO's convenient digital self-service app on your smartphone.

The challenge

For KINTO members, checking car availability, getting a quote and booking a vehicle is easy through the KINTO app. But as you can imagine, becoming a member does involve going through a few necessary steps to ensure everything is safe and legal. Luckily, the team at KINTO listened to what their potential customers wanted - a simpler way to figure out if their preferred car was available and how much it would cost them before jumping into the whole app download and sign up process. So, they approached us to create a solution - an easy-to-use car search and quoting tool on their website that gives prospective customers all the vital information they want right off the bat.

What we did

The KINTO team had a crystal clear vision of what they wanted and a deep understanding of their APIs' capabilities. That set us off to a great start with a detailed brief outlining all the desired features and behaviour for the car search and quoting tool they had in mind.

Our user experience team dove headfirst into the brief, meticulously mapping out the proposed user journey. As we visualised it, we began to see opportunities to simplify the experience even further while giving customers more freedom in their car search.

One of the key components of the tool was the ability to include vehicles from surrounding stations in the search results. But here's where we had a lightbulb moment - instead of just showing results for a specific station or location, why not let customers explore availabilities by navigating a map of all the KINTO stations?

Of course, we always double-check our solutions with our development team before presenting them to the client. We hate nothing more than proposing something that's simply not possible or could be done more efficiently. Luckily, our dev team agreed that this new approach not only simplified the user experience but also streamlined development. Talk about a win-win!

We also put some thought into how this tool could help capture leads. We sat down with KINTO's CRM and marketing automation partners to figure out the best way of incorporating a feature that would allow users to easily email their quote to themselves. This clever addition would not only provide users with a convenient way to keep their quote handy, but it would also capture their contact details and automatically add them to a lead nurture segment within KINTO's CRM.

Once everyone was happy with the experience solution, we put on the finishing touches in design. We made sure to incorporate KINTO branding throughout the entire experience, down to the styling of the map itself.

Throughout the process, we kept our development team fully engaged. So by the time we wrapped up our design files and handed them over for development, the team was confident, equipped with everything they needed, and ready to hit the ground running. And guess what? Within just a few short weeks, we were already testing a fully functional product.
